Issue a Public Apology

Okay, this one can be funny or serious, but I have nothing to apologise for, in my opinion. I stay away from the most controversial subjects, which I consider politics and religion. Many blogs write about these things, if that is your interest.

Other things that I touch on occasionally may not make everyone happy, such as the hot-button issue of global warming. Again, I only post my opinion and I realize not everyone will agree with me. That’s okay.

This blog is mostly about my life, my cats, and stories about growing up in the south on a farm. I hope readers will find them entertaining enough to follow me and leave comments once in awhile.

My other blog is mainly about writing issues, my own books, and book reviews. Feel free to click on that in the top right corner, if you like, and are interested in those things. I try to post helpful hints there and things of interest that I read about writing that may help other writers on this journey we’re all on toward success in this field.

What do I miss?

Golden Gate Bridge - California

This is a good question. The first thing that comes to mind is California. I lived there for twenty-five years. Probably, I would still be there if my husband hadn’t insisted on moving because of all the traffic, rising prices, and illegal immigrants. None of that stuff bothered me much.

This is me at Stowe Lake in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Ca -
YES, the water really is that color

Southern California has perfect weather too, although the winters could be a little bit warmer, but it is much warmer than where I live in the desert now. I could grow just about anything there all year long. The humidity is low, but there is still enough of it so as not to get your skin all cracked up. That’s a constant problem in the desert and I often wish I had a lotion factory in my backyard.

An Embarrassing Moment

Free Clipart

I am the sort of person who likes my appearance to be perfect if I’m going out in public, unless it’s to the gym or a place like that. So of course, if I don’t have everything “just so,” it’s embarrassing.

My husband and I were out of state on business about twenty years ago. The next morning we were meeting a business associate for breakfast. My hair wasn’t behaving itself, so I sprayed water on my bangs and put a couple of those big clips on them while I got dressed.

I hate to hurry all the time, but my husband was rushing me as usual and we left the room in a hurry. Naturally, you know where this is going. I had forgotten to take those clips off my bangs and found them halfway through breakfast as I brushed my hair out of my face. I’m sure I must have turned several shades of red as I quickly snatched them out of my hair and put them in my purse, trying to be cool and calm about it.

Disgusted with my husband doesn’t even begin to describe the way I felt after we left the restaurant. I’m just glad the place wasn’t super busy because he never told me, and the guy we were having breakfast with never indicated anything either. However, I guess he probably wouldn’t. I was so embarrassed. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this incident, which my husband thought was no big deal. Yeah, right....

A Moment in my Day

I took this picture from my backyard.

Sunni's Photo's

I like to sit on a garden bench out here and listen to the calls of nature before sunset. It is very quiet in my neighborhood, no road noise, no people noises, just nature as the birds chirp out songs in a beautiful symphony of chatter. The quail call for their families in mournful voices and the ravens play in the wind, lifting and drifting in pairs on the currents as night falls on the desert.

Today’s Subject: A Piece of Advice I have for others

NEVER GIVE UP!

That’s it, folks. No matter how hard things get, never give up. You can gather up the courage and strength to keep going somehow.

This was one of life’s lessons taught to us as children growing up. We didn’t always have the best time living on the farm, as you can imagine if you’ve ever lived on a farm where you had to make ends meet with a once-a-year paycheck. That check and our lives were at the mercy of how well the crops did that year. Too much or too little rain could have a devastating outcome. The weather played a big part in things. Maybe that’s why I’m so interested in it now, always looking at the forecast.

When times aren’t the best as adults, my siblings, and I still rely on that very important message today to get us through those times. It helps immensely to know that I am a survivor and that I’ll be fighting until the end, if necessary.

If I gave up, I would never accomplish anything in my life and I can’t have that. When I set my sights on something, I always work toward it. Some days may not work out, but in the end, everything usually does. You probably achieve your task just when you should. Maybe the circumstances would have been different, if you had completed it early. You never know, as much as you want to rush to the finish line.

So hang in there no matter how tough it gets, and keep going. You can do it.

Now, to get on with today’s post. I am probably most afraid of losing everything and having to live as a homeless person. Normally, this kind of stuff wouldn’t cross my mind a lot, but my husband is quite a naysayer about what is going on in the US these days. Listening to him all the time makes me wonder about many things.

I’m not sure how worried I really need to be, or if this is just an argument for getting me to agree to moving out of the country. He doesn’t understand that I can see no sense in that. It will be very hard to see my family then, not that I see them much now, but it is still doable when I can drive there, if I have to.

I know our funds are always in short supply and the cost of everything keeps going up. To make ends meet in the US on retirement income is very difficult. We really will have to work all our lives. Of course, the argument is we will live well in a foreign country. I’m not so sure this is true after talking with friends who have done that. I think we, as Americans, are just a spoiled bunch because we’ve had so much all of our lives and don’t realize the difficulties and expenses that can arise in foreign areas.

Anyhow, the jury is still out on the verdict as to where to move, but the planning and downsizing efforts continue.

If I were homeless, where would I plug in my computer, and keep all my cats, not to mention everything else I would never part with? This would be a real serious issue. Has anyone else ever thought about this?
