Weird Dreams

I’m the queen of weird dreams.  If I can manage to sleep more than three or four hours a night, I always dream something crazy, usually in the wee hours of the morning.  I don’t know where this stuff comes from.  The things I dream have nothing to do with my recent reading material, current TV shows I’ve watched, or things I’ve read surfing the internet.

I’ve kept a dream journal about all this bizarre stuff for at least the last twenty years.  I keep thinking a pattern will emerge but the only thing concrete at this point is the fact I’m usually around lots of people.

The last week in March, I was dreaming about Sharon Osborne.  I don’t think I’ve ever dreamed about the Osborne’s before.  In my dream, she was running a beauty salon in a western town.  At least all the buildings were western style in architecture.  She must have been in a mall-type situation because there were lots of other rooms and waiting areas in the place, and many people milling about.

She gave me a purse-type case with lots of wrapped packages inside.  The wrapping paper was old-fashioned, similar to newsprint or an old newspaper, but with small floral patterns on it and each tied separately with curling ribbon.  After I got home, or where I was staying, my husband started opening them.  Some were flat and others were tiny boxes.

A flat one had an announcement in there that stated Ozzy was going deaf.  My husband asked me if I gave her my condolences and of course I didn’t know, so I went back to talk to her.  She was busy working on someone’s hair so I decided to wait.

While waiting I saw a man come in for surgery.  He had a bandage on his head and was in a wheelchair.  They wheeled him into another room.  There was a kitchen in yet another room.  A group of people in white clothes was busy cooking fish.  They started washing up kitchen utensils to use in the operating room.  “This will be fine,” they kept telling the man who looked skeptical as they brought in spatulas, big kitchen forks and knives.

I went to the restroom and a large gray, fluffy cat followed me in.  The room was tiny with a sink and toilet and a shoebox-sized litter box.  The cat got in to do his business standing and waving his tail in a flag as he sprayed the entire bathroom and me.  I had my arms up to protect myself.  I saw the cat lounging earlier on a cushion in the waiting room where there were skylights and potted plants all over.

When I came out, I went to another restroom and cleaned up.  This one was bigger and some girls helped me sponge up my arms and legs and change clothes.  I wasn’t mad at the cat because the litter box was too small for him.  Then I went to the kitchen to eat fish while I waited for Sharon.  Then…I woke up.

What do you make of this dream?  Have you ever dreamed anything bizarre?

  1. Not sure what to make of this dream for you, sorry.

My dreams, at least the ones I remember, (when I do sleep because I rarely get a real restful full night's sleep), are always bizarre. We have a kind of "contest" for the strangest dreams in my house. It's a tie between me and my oldest daughter. She has had some real crazies. Some of which have become ideas for some of my short stories.

    1. Jaybird,

I never know what to make of dreams either. I also use some of the stuff as ideas for stories.

  2. I'm impressed you can remember it! I don't usually remember my dreams, but if I do they are the weird variety and don't linger more than a couple of hours.

    1. Annalisa,

I remember all my dreams usually. The first thing I do is write them in my dream journal. If my husband starts talking to me before I do, I may as well forget recording them because they're gone in a flash.

I even get up in the middle of the night and write things down.

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment.

  3. I have weird dreams too. I often wake up and think they'd make interesting stories. :)

It's funny that Sharon Osbourne was in your dream. As for the cat spraying everything...maybe you just have cats on the brain. :P

    1. Chrys,

Ha! Ha! I ALWAYS have cats on the brain but mine are good and never spray anything. I'm not sure where Sharon Osborne came from either because I never read or watch anything that has her in it.

  4. Life is but a dream, then we wake up. When we go back to sleep and have another dream. That's another life. That's my idea of re-incarnation. Dreams from another level of reality.

  5. Oh, I completely understand this! I, too, dream crazy stuff! Yours sound a lot like mine--random things, apparently nonsensical, but they must mean something, right? Mine often have plots, too!

I can relate. I didn't think I was the only one.

  6. My dreams are always bizarre. When someone has a strange dream, I always ask, what do you think it meant? Because it was meant for the dreamer.

    1. Liz,

I get that about the dream being meant for the dreamer, but I have yet to decipher any deeper meaning in mine. Maybe someday I'll take up the study of dreams.

  7. I knew you would write this post Sunni! You know also I have had my share of dreams too. How about the peddler selling his wares from an old rickety cart. I picked out the magic eggs. He was standing on a cobblestone path His beard hung to his knees and it swayed as he walked His . He was holding onto an old staff............(that was part of it)

    1. Thea,

It seems there are a few of us here that have weird dreams with some of the stuff being good fodder for stories.

  8. I am the queen of bizarre when it comes to dreams..well and waking life:) I once dreamt that I had to feed all these cats in a small office. Later they were gone but I heard laughing and splashing, I looked out the screen door onto a pretty scene of what one sees in the Muskokas. the cats were playing beach ball, sun tanning. A speedboat went by with the 2 male cats up front driving the boat, 2 gal cats in the back talking and waving to me and a cat on water skis. All the cats were telling me to come and join them. I just felt perplexed and woke up.

    1. Birgit,

What a great dream that was! Wow, just the kind I hate to wake up from. Hee-hee.

I have dreamed some amazing things over the years. This one I posted because it was a current one. I have a dream journal full of this bizarre stuff.

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment. I really LOVE that cat dream.

Once I dreamed my Koki was flying. She's always a little daredevil pushing the limits. She was trying to get away from me and would lift her front ams up and they turned into cape-like wings and she flew to the top of the curtain rod. From there she kept going around the room flying over my head. I woke up with a smile on my face that day.
