Do you believe in Reincarnation?

My grandmother did and I tend to lean that way myself.  This is a fascinating subject to me.  While we have no proof, and are unlikely to receive any, many small children know things they couldn’t possibly know that happened decades before they were born.  What’s to be made of such stories?

When you think about it, it makes perfect sense that a soul would get a do-over to do better in the next life.  I’m not one to believe that if you don’t get it right, you’ll spend eternity in hell.  If that’s the case, how merciful is the creator?

The thought of bad people going to hell is an enticing one when you think about murderers and psychopaths who can’t reform, but then the world will always have evil characters in it, so maybe these types also get to do it all over again.  It makes you think, doesn’t it?

After all, nobody is perfect, so just where do you draw the line for indiscretions that will still allow your soul to be admitted into heaven on your first attempt?  No, I’m not a Buddhist, but Buddhism teachings do make a lot of sense in some areas.

Then there’s the feeling of déjà vu that happens when you go somewhere that you know you’ve never been, but you know where everything is.  Has this ever happened to you?  It’s happened to me a couple of times.  The scene also gave me goose bumps because it was creepy to know all that stuff and know I was in a strange place.

On a different tack altogether, perhaps you create your own heaven and hell.  The concept for everyone could be different because we all have different things to fear, or different ideas of what the perfect place is.  Has anyone thought about that?

I know this is a controversial post, but I bet it’ll make you ponder some deep subjects for a while and question yourself as to where you stand on this issue.  Is your soul reborn into a new body, do you live through someone else in a future life, or is that it – dead is dead - and you’re shuffled off to heaven or kicked down to hell?

  2. Oh boy! The mind really goes wild over this subject. I was told once long ago anyone that dies young will come back but when you are older your body is on its last life. I figure Daddy is out there in someone else's family now. What a though,t huh?

    1. Thea,

Sometimes I like to ponder the "wild subjects."

The thing is where is the line between young and old? In the grand scheme of things even a hundred year old person is probably considered young. Have you thought about that? Only us human lving people consider a hundred to be old.

      Thanks for your comment.

  3. I want to believe we all go to Heaven and stay there with loved ones, but I think reincarnation makes more sense. There seems to be a lot of proof with it too when people can recall things from past lives, etc.

    1. Pilch,

I think everyone wants to believe that we go to heaven and stay there. I think that's only a pitstop until we're sent out again, either to improve our lives or to help someone else improve theirs. Of course we never know for sure, do we?

      One of life's big mysteries.

  4. Hi, Sunni. I'm not sure if I believe in reincarnation or not, but I have often said that in my next life, I want to come back as one of my cats. They are a bit spoiled to say the least.

Thanks for visiting during the A-Z challenge.

  6. I do believe in reincarnation. I believe they we have had many lives to learn many different lessons. It makes sense to me because only having one life and then nothing else after that seems a little pointless. Me may not go into a new life immediately though. Maybe 100 years go by before we reincarnate, but I believe it. And I think when we're done learning all of our lessons, we can stop and enjoy the afterlife.

    1. Chrys,

I think you're correct. This is all about learning what we need to know, or perhaps teaching another something they need to know and learning from each other. I'm not sure on how long it would be between incarnations, perhaps several generations. After all, in the grand scheme of things, a hundred years is a mere few minutes. Only living people measure time.

  7. I found answers that I'm satisfied with a while back to these questions. This plane of existence is kind of like a school, so we do come back over and over until we're ready to graduate.

  8. I don't believe in reincarnation; I believe in heaven/hell as defined in the Bible. It is an interesting to think about though and wonder what lies beyond after we die. If there was reincarnation, I'd like to come back thinner :)

    1. Betty,

Many people believe as you do - in Heaven and Hell. I was reading a blog earlier today where someone commented that, according to the Bible, there will only be 114,000 people in heaven when judgement day rolls around. That doesn't sound right to me. There are millions on Earth. Are the rest of those people going to Hell then? I can't possibly believe that, but I respect all opinions.

I guess many of us would like to be thinner.

Thanks for your comment. I enjoy your blog about Prescott.

  9. It's such an interesting question Sunni thank you. I'm not sure where I stand on this but deja vu does happen to me, children before they're taught otherwise know more than we realise.

    1. Susan,

Yes, this is a deep subject that can leave us all pondering over it for some time. I have deja vu moments too, which give me goosebumps.

Children know a lot more than we realize, but I guess all their memories go away once we teach them otherwise.

      Thanks for your comment.

  10. I find this topic also very intriguing. I once went to someone who would talk about the future but as soon as I sat down, she asked me, more stated, that I was terrified of heights, which I am. She proceeded to say ask if I felt good in the mountains but not in Canada more in Europe. I said yes-strong attraction. She then said that in my former life I lived in those mountains but drove off a cliff ( not on purpose but lost control of the car) and every joint in my body was broken which is why I am in pain in this life(which I am). She stated I did not wait but was immediately born into the life I have now. I thought that was pretty cool. We have no idea about previous lives but ever since I read about Bridey Murphy I was intrigued

    1. Wow Birgit! That's a fascinating story. I've heard that you'll carry a few things with you into a new life (fear of heights, water, etc and aches and pains due to injuries from a previous life.) This is a very intriguing subject for me too.

I think you do get to decide when to come back for another shot at things, so perhaps that's how a grandchild is born who knows everything about a deceased grandfather/grandmother, etc. They could have been that peson before.

      Thank you for commenting.

  11. Yes, that is a can of worms, for sure. Personally I believe that there is more to life than just one trip. this is a subject that I would love to discuss with open minded people.

    1. Mister Weirdo,

Yes, this subject is a can of worms all right. I like discussing this with open minded people too because the others can't understand this concept at all and I'm not into conflicts. I can agree to disagree.

      Thanks for your comment.
