Sharing

I have more wildlife to share with everyone today, as well as a beautiful sunrise.  We don’t get many of these orange ones in the mornings.  This color is usually reserved for sunsets around here.

Sunrise in the desert

We’ve had a bird of prey visiting us almost daily so he can use the birdbath.  I’m usually washing dishes when he makes his appearance, so I was lucky to get these shots so far.  I’m still hoping to get one of him splashing in the water.  I know he does because he’s all wet and displaces half the water out of the birdbath.

He usually hangs out a while, but you have to be so fast to get a good shot when it comes to birds.

Sparrow feeding her baby

I was lucky to get this one too of a sparrow feeding her chick.  I spotted the youngster on the table and grabbed my camera to wait for her to come back.

And here's more quail.

Of course, the orioles are still steady at it and drain the hummingbird feeder in a week.  This giant feeder holds six cups of nectar.  The poor hummers compete for their time to drink the sweet nectar.  I’ve started making extra and keep it in bottles in the fridge.  We have five females on there daily.  These gals hang out in the trees all day and frolic around chasing each other and feeding.  The males are more elusive and it’s harder to get a shot of them.

I never get tired of watching the birds and the cats don’t either.

  1. That is a magnificent bird of prey! I would enjoy watching him if he came by :) That is interesting that the orioles like the hummingbird food. I bet it is sweet tasting to them. Cute pictures of the quail. Finally saw some quail here after about 10 days of not. Yesterday did see the mom and dad with their babies who were now more adolescent looking. Fun to watch them for a bit.

I'm with you; I never get tired watching the birds either. So fascinating to watch how they interact with each other, etc.

    1. Betty, that bird of prey is a magnificent thing. I'm so surprised he vsiits here daily and has for about two weeks now. We always see raptors like this, but generally they have a territory they hunt and the same bird isn't around this much. I've been going crazy with my camera. :-)

My neighbor has quail familes that perch on top of the kale in her garden. They love the stuff. I told her to get a pic so I hope she does and shares it with me.

They make nectar for orioles, but they prefer the hummingbird nectar. They won't even touch the stuff they're supposed to like.

      Thanks for reading.

  2. That's great. So much to see. You need to set up a webcam.

    1. Liz, I might really be surprised if I do that. We always have some type of critter in the yard, but there's nothing behind us except desert. I think that's why it's constant coming and going all day.

      Thanks for reading.

  3. Wow! Great pictures, Sunni! Love the bird of prey. Is it a hawk? That sunrise picture is lovely.

    1. Vashti,

The bird of prey is a hawk. I just don't know what kind of hawk yet. There are many of those around here.

We seldom get a red sunrise here, so that was unusual. I was also lucky enough to be up to snap that picture.

I'm glad you enjoyed. Thanks for leaving a comment.
