The sisters today - They don't look that old, do they?
These are the siblings growing up

Of course, this story got me to thinking about all my
siblings and the fact that all seven of us are still around and working on our
sixth decade of life. If all of us were
to make it to our nineties with no calamities, and this is possible because we
are all nine years apart, we would have a collective span of 662 living years. That’s interesting, isn’t it? Longevity runs on one side of our family, so
I guess we’ll see what the future brings.
One never knows how life will turn out for anyone.
Then again, by the time you reach your nineties, you have to
think about a body filled with aches and pains, not to mentions eye and hearing
impairments among other things. Few
people reach old age unscathed by life in some way. Would living this long really be a good
thing?
Merlin - the cat with the loudest purr in the world
He’s a handsome fellow and brings to mind my Raven who also
purrs loudly, but nothing to match Merlin I’m sure. However, even with my poor hearing, I can
hear my Raven purring all the time and that always makes me smile and count my
blessings that he ended up in my house.

I took care of a lady that ended up being a grandmother to me at the end. She was 106 years old when she died. A great wonderful lady I was blessed to take care of even tho her mind was somewhere else she would listen to only me and a few other people but i didn't blame her she wanted what she wanted.
ReplyDeleteI loved your post today. Glad I stopped by. I hope you have a blessed week.
Stacey,
DeleteThanks very much! I hope you'll stop by again sometime.
Wow,106 is getting up there. I think you can have what you want at that age.

I did see this story about the sisters. My mom came from a family of 10 siblings. All but one lived into their 80s and several into their mid 90s. I agree a lot does factor into our longevity, healthy habits, lifestyles, etc. I would hope however long I live I don't lose my memory; I would rather the aches and pains than suffering with dementia.
ReplyDeleteIn reference to your question about Friday letters, they are just little snippets you might want to write about that wouldn't be long enough for a blog post. Some people do them as Friday Fragments, Friday letters just puts it in letter form :)

Betty,
DeleteYou do have longevity in your family. That's great! I would never want dementia either, but my mom has it now, so I imagine at least one of us will end up with it too. It's so sad to see her going downhill, especially with the tough life she's had.
Thanks for clarifying Friday's letters. I may use that sometime.
And thanks for leaving a comment.

You know what fascinates me? The oldest living person. When I see those stories pop up, they always grab my attention. Longevity seems to be about luck as well as genes. Fascinating.
ReplyDeleteLiz,
DeleteIt is fascinating to read about the oldest living people. Sometimes I guess it is luck when you consider the ones who smoked and drank all their lives.

My local paper in Devon, UK, last week did a story about twin sisters who were 101 and still going strong. Merlin, too, lives near me. I wrote about him on my blog last week. He's incredible!
ReplyDeletePL,
DeleteThanks for reading. I didn't know you lived in the UK. Naturally I had to do a cat story. I love cats.
That's great about the 101-year-old sisters. I think it would be nice to live that long if you had all your faculties and could function on your own.

Yes, veggies alone won't get you to live to old age. So many other things factor in. Genes, health, exercise, chance and even luck.
ReplyDeleteChrys,
DeleteYes, I know veggies alone won't get you to old age. All the other things you mentioned do come into play. Plus, I'm sure you need some protein. A nice balanced diet and no excesses are probably key along with exercise, genes, overall health and chance.
