It’s sizzling here in the desert and this is only June. I hate to think about July and August (our
hottest months here). We’ve had triple
digits the last two weeks with no end in sight.
I talked to a girlfriend in CA last night and it was 100 there. Everything is suffering.
Look at my lawn:
One year we had grubs in it and it got brown like this so we
had to put some stuff on it from the nursery to kill the grubs and it perked
right up after that. This year --no
grubs -- they say a fungus is affecting many lawns. So we get another product from the nursery,
put that on and then watered it in. That
was at least two weeks ago now. We’ve
given it extra water with this heat too and nothing seems to help. We wonder if anyone here knows what they’re
talking about and this isn’t the first time.
As I’ve said before, an odd bunch of people live in this state. Now, we’re thinking of pulling the grass out
and having rock put in (like most of the rest of the yard).
Lots of these little guys around
On another note, many animals have ventured by in search of
water. I have to fill all the pans and
bowls daily.
Desert toad
FWIT, today it’s 110 here.
My lawn in the front is still green but in the back it's not looking so good.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I come to your blog, I love looking at the pictures of your kitties. Wizard looks just like my cat, Rosie. She died last year. RIP to Wizard and Rosie. <3
Chrys,
DeleteAww. Sorry to hear about Rosie. Losing an animal is hard.
Thanks for reading and commenting. I'm glad you like the cat pics.

I know you aren't in California, but talking to relatives that still live there, they say because of the drought everyone is letting their grass die out; xeriscape with the rocks seems to be the best thing in the long one I think, especially with how precious water resources will continue to be for anyone of us who live in the desert. I told hubby we're just going to become inside hermits until it cools down a bit; I guess better than going out and getting heat stroke. I do miss the weather of San Diego, but not the crowds or the expense of living there :)

Betty,
DeleteI agree. I miss San Diego weather too. We lived there twenty five years.
We are definitely inside. I feel so sorry for the birds and other critters out there.
Yes, I imagine it'll be more xeriscape for us too. We have it all over now except for a bit of grass. Oh well...
Thanks for stopping by.

Yikes, 110!!! Maybe it'll just stay like this for July and August or you'll get a cool wave. One can dream, right?
ReplyDeleteLiz,
DeleteYes, dreaming will probably be all it is too, unfortunately.
Thanks for reading.

Oy. I feel you. It was between 106 and 110 here for three days last week and we're now on a string of 100-104. It's merciless. To make matters even more fun, our A/C is currently nonfunctional thanks to a busted blower. We're living with a lot of fans on. My yard is holding on better than I am at this point. I hope yours starts perking back up soon! Elle @ Erratic Project Junkie
ReplyDeleteElle,
DeleteAll the landscaping is going or gone at my house. We're on day 19 of the triple digits with them being over 106. Some days it's 114 here. We still have but two weeks to go, they say, until we get two days of 98 and then back up again.
For goodness sake, get your blower fixed!!
