I may chat about my books, what I'm writing or reading, or just general thoughts. You may read posts about my cats or just my crazy life in general. Comments are welcome, if anyone wants to interact with me. Maybe we can share war stories, whether it's writing related or just about life in general.

A new addition

This is Abbie - Another Gemini in the family

Okay, this post is part joy, part rant and part opinion poll.  Your comments are welcome.  Last Wed my niece gave birth to her first child, a girl she named Abbie.  She was anxious for this kid to arrive plus my sister was anxious to be a grandparent.  Congrats to the new mother and baby who are doing well.  I know my niece will make a great mother.  She loves kids.

The thing I have to rant about is that they rushed this delivery along because of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.  This wasn't the case twenty-thirty years ago.  But today it’s for the doctor’s convenience because it seems the medical staff no longer wants to be interrupted in the middle of the night or on holidays.  A long time nurse confirmed this.  I really have a beef with this kind of attitude and I have a sister that agrees with me or maybe more than one who does.  I haven’t discussed this with all of my siblings.

When a doctor goes to medical school he/she knows very well what is entailed as the years go along.  They take an oath to provide medical care and that oath doesn’t exclude holidays, weekends, vacations, etc.  Medical people are paid well for their expertise and service to the community and patients.  For everything there is a price.  Doctors aren’t excluded.

Of course the new grandparents don’t want to even discuss this issue at all.  This baby wasn’t due for another week and the mother and child weren’t in any danger.  If that was the case I’d be all for it (inducing labor), but otherwise I think nature should take its course.  What did they do years ago before any of this stuff was invented, or even thought of before childbirth?

So I realize my opinion doesn’t really count in this situation but I’d like to know what the rest of you think about this.  Thanks for your input.
