I may chat about my books, what I'm writing or reading, or just general thoughts. You may read posts about my cats or just my crazy life in general. Comments are welcome, if anyone wants to interact with me. Maybe we can share war stories, whether it's writing related or just about life in general.

At what point are we too old to ________________?

I’ll let everyone reading this fill in the blank.  It has many meanings.

For me this is mostly physical labor kinds of things, such as crawling on the floor on my hands and knees while cleaning the baseboard.  My house has gotten to be such a pigsty of dust and crap that I had to start in cleaning it while I have a day off.  Now my back hurts like heck tonight from all that activity.  But I got part of the dust bunnies up and dusting done.  I never got as much done as I was planning on, but that’s usually the way it goes.

Tomorrow is back to work again.  Ugh!  Right now standing up on my feet for six hours doesn’t sound enticing at all, but I’m sure I’ll feel better once I get a good night’s sleep.  I do coconut cookies tomorrow so that’s an easy demo.  Most people like them, it’s in the warmer part of the store, and I’m not cooking so it’s easy to keep the tray full of samples.

This is our Bradford Pear tree in the front yard.

Speaking of weather, it’s finally warm.  Spring is here!  I could dance I’m so happy about that.  The trees all over town are budding out.  I even saw a bat out tonight.  That’s early for them to be out of hibernation.  So we can get ready for the allergies, but I’d rather have that than the cold weather any day.

I rewarded myself by sitting in my courtyard soaking up the last rays of the sun tonight.  I wanted to go outside so bad today, but I kept working cleaning house instead so I could get part of it accomplished.

The Desert isn’t all Sand and Sagebrush

Blooming Paloverde Tree

But don’t get me wrong.  There’s plenty of that to go around.  Sometimes I wonder if the house will ever be clean and free of sand.  I think the answer to that is probably no.  I know one thing; I don’t want to spend all my free time cleaning, especially when it looks like a waste of time after two days has gone by.  When I get home from work all I want to do is sit down and put my feet up a while before I tackle dinner.

I’m glad that a big salad is acceptable around here for dinner most of the time.  The last thing I usually want to do is cook something after serving food all day.  I’m ready to relax with my glass of wine.

 Tootie in my reading chair

Right now, I have my windows open and am enjoying the nice breeze blowing in (bringing more dust with it, I’m sure), but I just don’t care.  It feels so good and it’s unseasonably cool for May in the desert, so I’ll take it.  I know we have 115 degrees coming down the road.

 Raven napping downstairs

Two mockingbirds are serenading me as I write this.  I love to hear their happy chirps.  I wish they’d stand still long enough to get a picture, but they are flitting from tree to tree.

Koki napping on top of my computer

The cats are all napping so they can stay awake all night and get into trouble in the house.  Tootie roams the halls all night and meows loud enough to wake us up.  Koki and Raven get into things.

For today I thought I’d post some flower pictures taken from my patio and around my yard.  Enjoy.

This wouldn't be complete without an oleander.  They thrive in the desert

Happy Birthday to my sister, Tedo, who will be old enough tomorrow to take social security, if she wants to.  It’s hard to believe we’re all getting so old when it really wasn’t that long ago that all of us were growing up on the cotton farm.

My beautiful sister Tedo (Tedri).  The family wouldn't know what to do without her.

Sometimes Life Just Hands you Crap!

Or at least that was what I thought when I got up to face a dusty house that needs cleaning, a cat throw up and piles of paper and stuff everywhere to be picked up.  But do you think I could get to that?  No way!  I had to delve into a dull manuscript I’m editing that is full of medical jargon that entails looking up every other word to see if it is indeed even a word.  That’s when Google is my best friend.  Big sigh!  At least I have all the tax stuff added up and written on a worksheet to be delivered to the accountant.  But my office floor is still filled with stacks of papers.  Oh well……..it will be there when I get to it.

Its times like these that you have to keep the old positive attitude and fall back on the saying that was engrained in us as kids “things could always be worse.”
