Day 983 of My Captivity

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously a moron. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now…

Do people have no shame? Working retail brings out the worst in people

I’ve probably said this before, but life behind a retail counter, demo cart, or any other place of business does not give the people on the other side full reign to abuse you.  Yet I’ve found this to be true over my working career and it doesn’t seem to change no matter where you are in the service industry.  People need someone to yell at, throw things at, and argue with.  Why is human nature like this?  I guess it always has been and always will be.

Sometimes wouldn’t you love to place them in your job and trade places just for a day and see if it would change their attitude?  They could not survive for five minutes in the situations that are commonplace for us service workers.

Yes, sometimes this is very hard to do

I don’t know why the rudeness of people still surprises me.  I’ve worked several jobs over my working career whether it be selling food, jewelry, clothing, or other products.  The customers on the “other side of the counter” are pretty much all the same.  They’re ready to make you feel you are “far below their level.”

I think the best thing that could happen is for everyone to spend a day, or two, in another’s shoes before they’re given free control to belittle and criticize.  I certainly always think about the person waiting on me in places that I go and I have respect and patience because I know they put up with a lot and they’re doing the best they can under the circumstances.  Wouldn’t the world be so much better if we all went in the store with that in mind?  After all, when you’re rude how is that going to help anyone?

I hope everyone reading this will think about it as the holiday season approaches and everyone is busy at their jobs trying to take care of everyone the best they can.

Happy Birthday, Thea

Also a happy 60th birthday to my youngest sister who has reached this milestone in her life.

Another Crazy Person Strikes Again

I wonder if all this killing will ever end.  I suppose it won’t.  There are way too many sick people out there.  Are any of us safe anywhere anymore?

Now we have a shooting in a church of all places.  I’m wondering why someone in this latest event didn’t tackle this guy and not give him time to reload his gun several times.  Yes, it’s dangerous, but there are brave souls out there too who will take on the crazies.  We live in such frightening times.

The scary thing is we probably pass these people every day and we don’t even know it.  How could we when most of these people look as normal as anyone else.  They could exist anywhere and something could happen at any time in the most unlikely places.

We all need to be as vigilant and aware as we can be of everything and everyone in our surroundings at all times.

When I was at work yesterday there was a suspicious person hanging about with a backpack.  He was clearly not a shopper and had no shopping cart.  He lingered in corners pretending to look at merchandise and then made his way to the meat counter.  My first thought was that he was there to steal something.  He kept a tight grip on that backpack as if it held something valuable, but it looked pretty flat and empty to me.

I couldn’t leave my station so I alerted another employee who was collecting empty boxes.  He sent management over to talk to me.  I have no idea how this situation turned out.  The man eventually meandered out of my range of sight.  I was too busy helping customers to try to keep an eye on him and find him again.  I did give a full description to management though, so they kept an eye on him, I hope.

It didn’t occur to me until later that he could have had a gun in that bag.  My gut was telling me that something was just not right with him.  But more than likely he was a thief.
