I’ve asked myself this question more than once lately. There’s some crazy news and crazy people out
there, but maybe there always has been and news is just more available now.
In today’s paper I read about an inmate in California who is serving a sentence on
death row for murder. This person has no
chance of parole. Now what caught my eye
here is that this individual wants gender identification surgery and the court
has granted his wish. So the state,
which I think means the taxpayers, will be paying for his surgery. Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy?
I’m the type of person who cares less what anyone does to
their body, or what gender they identify with because it’s none of my business
and if they aren’t hurting anyone, who cares?
But I think it’s wrong for the state to foot the bill for this guy’s
surgery. Do you think the state would
pay for surgery for any of us? I don’t
think so. And I’m not thinking about a
gender change. I’m talking about any
surgery. What about life threatening
situations. This surgery is a want – not
a need, and I don’t think the taxpayers should pay for it. Period.
Why does anyone on death row need this type of thing?
Its for reasons like this that I am glad I don't live in California any more. I'd be curious though what other states would do in similar situations. The world indeed has gone crazy.

Betty,
DeleteI think you'd find many other states following along and doing the same thing.
It's things like this that really shatters my view of CA. It used to be such a nice place way back several decades ago. I visited there as a child when they had orange groves everywhere along the roads. This was way before I moved there as an adult. And even then it wasn't that bad yet back in the 70's. I really hate to see what has become of this state because somehow a little piece of my heart will always be there.

It is pretty crazy and where does it stop? If it is a convicted murderer's constitutional right to have government funded gender reassignment what about all the transgenders who are good citizens but can't afford surgery?
ReplyDeleteCarol,
DeleteI think if people want things like this they should pay for it, or forget it. A convicted murder shouldn't have any constitutional rights and certainly none like this for government funded surgery. The government sure isn't going to foot the bill for surgery for the rest of us.
