We live on a street with several vacant lots and this past
month workers are busy clearing two of them for new homes. So we’ll be getting new neighbors probably
sometime before Christmas. They’ve been
working most of the weekdays on the clearing and leveling of the lots. Dump trucks have been busy bringing in loads
of dirt that is compacted for the foundation. No building has actually started
yet. Usually it takes them about six
months to build a house here.

This is the lot up the street. A block wall is now going up there.
Sounds fun with the prospect of new neighbors, hopefully the construction noise and dust won't be too bad :)

Betty,
DeleteThis construction and dust is down the street so that's okay. A year ago they built a house two lots down from us and that was very noisy and dusty for months. Those people only use it about four-five times a year, so we don't see them much. I think they still work in SLC and won't move here permanently until they retire a few years from now.

I'm always excited and nervous whenever I'm getting new neighbors. After all, you never know who you're going to get. I hope all goes well and smoothly and you get wonderful neighbors.
ReplyDeleteVashti,
DeleteMe too. You never know. We've had some dreadful ones and some nice ones in the past.
Thanks for reading.

Isn't it too hot to build anything right now?
ReplyDeleteLiz,
DeleteIt's very hot but this is usually the time the guys are out there getting burned to a crisp! I feel bad for all the people working outdoors here. But they don't stop just because it's summer. You still have to make a living.
Thanks for reading and leaving a comment.

That's amazing that they can build a house in 6 months. It takes about double that time in Delhi. Keeping fingers crossed for good neighbours - they make such a difference to one's life.
ReplyDeleteKalpanaa,
DeleteThanks for finding and reading my blog. It really takes a year to build a house Delhi? Wow, that's so interesting. I guess all parts of the world are different. And yes, great neighbors make a lot of difference.
